Dis-Enchanted

So no, we're still not done planning our Disney trip.....The initial plan had been to go in April 2012 over spring break.  Yes, we know it's the 2nd most crowded time of the year but we are prepared for that.  I guess what I wasn't 100% prepared for was the ridiculous price of going that time of year.  Jacked up prices doesn't quite cover it.  And because of it being Easter week, the chances of getting any kind of discount are virtually impossible.  I'm sure airfare will suck a big fat one too.  I'm getting to the point now where I don't want to go.  I'm completely disenchanted by the process.  Completely.  And while yes, we could afford to go and actually have money saved, it's the amount of money that I just don't want to spend.  It seems ridiculously frivolous.  I guess I see that the money that we could spend on a Disney trip would cover a much nicer vacation say to Aruba or somewhere else in the Caribbean.  When I told my mom the price we had quoted (not counting airfare), she was kind of outraged too based on how much she and my dad spent for their entire 2 week Italy trip last year.  I guess to me, when you're paying that much you'd expect a whole lot more than just a value or moderate resort.  Again, this would be a different situation if we were going at a "value" time and could get free dining and a reduced hotel rate.  I just won't pull the kids out of school.  That's my issue, yes.  And going in June after the kids get out of school isn't a whole lot better, at least in terms of hotel.  (No free dining has been announced for summer 2012 yet..)

Add to it that Jason has voiced some doubt over whether Piper is old enough to enjoy it (she would be 3.5) since we're really not planning to go again after this......

I don't know, I guess I'm just NOT feeling any kind of Disney magic right now.  All I'm seeing is capitalism and an over priced product.   If the kids didn't already know we were planning something, I'd say we're not going.  Maybe we'll just put it off another year.  I'm just not feeling it.

We put ours off a year from this past spring to Spring 2012 (girls will be 6 1/2 and almost 5 when we go) and while I think they are old enough to have fun and a really good time in the moment, I think it won't be old enough for them to really remember it without looking at photos. I've been advised by some to wait until they are around 10 (which seems old to me since what 10 year old wants to dress up in princess gear and have fun pretending) We too are debating our trip in 2012 but I think we will proceed as planned since I can't wait to take them (we used to go every 4 years growing up) and I know we will be going back again. But I hear ya on the cost - OUCH!

And how is it possible for you to book already - I've been online and can't get to book a room past December 2011?

BTW have you checked out this site http://yourfirstvisit.net/ yet?

And the new Value Resort - Art on Animation which opens May 30, 2012 look really really neat! (even thought about moving our trip dates to stay there but too close to school getting out and summer vaca and crowds)

I know... the airfare situation right now STINKS.... especially for a family of 4-5!!! Even when we go in January, it's kind of insane how much the airfare is. Sickens me whenever I hit the "submit" button....

And yes... Disney COMPLETELY rips you off during their peak seasons. :( It's disgusting.... Wouldn't blame you for rescheduling. November and early December are fantastic (and great priced) times to go... we also like February around MLK day...

I haven't started freaking out about airfare yet because Southwest hasn't released fares for April yet. That won't happen until September 5.

We are looking into a deal my mom is getting through AAA so we might actually be able to swing an April 2012 trip now. :)
