Yay Job!

I can't remember how much I've talked about the possible changes at work here on my blog.  I try to, for the most part, refrain from talking about work here except other than to utter words of being busy.  I generally don't have much to complain about (other than a little stress) but for the past year, our office has been under the microscope of our provost for a restructure.  We had no idea what that meant.  I even started looking for a new job.  (Was practically offered that job but then turned it down - I liked the work I would have been doing but didn't feel as though the office was a good fit for me and the commute would have been longer.)

But today, we finally got a word from the provost about our restructure.  And it turns out that my trusting the process and waiting worked!  I'm going to be moving out of graduate admissions and into the Registrar's Office and continuing to do my favorite parts of my current job in addition to some additional responsibilities that I won't bore you with (but I'm excited about!).   I feel as though someone has handed me the moon and I don't know what to do with it!  I'm just thrilled.  Thrilled that both the Registrar's Office wanted me that much and that my current supervisor wanted me too, and I got to pick!   (Bracken, I'll fill you in on all the details via email since you won't be bored by all the details!)

I'm just thrilled.  Thrilled.  Probably won't happen for a few more months and big change is coming but it's good change.  I've wanted to work in the Registrar's Office for a long time and now it's happening.  I never thought I'd get this excited about work.  There's a lot of potential for growth for me in this position and office and can see myself getting settled in there for a long time - which is exactly what I want.

Total winning!

OMG!! Totally need details. You need to email me or maybe this is big enough to warrant a phone call. Let me know and I can give you a call. Totally psych'd for you even without the details. Waiting with anticipation.... :)

Congratulations! I hope your new position treats you well.

Is this the same position that Bracken once held?

I wish she was still at Towson. That would mean that she/they still lived in Maryland ;-)

Lisa - actually no, the Grad School is being completely dismantled so it's not Bracken's position. This is a new position created for me in the Registrar's Office. :)

P.S. What REALLY happens in the Registrar's Office anyway????

Basically the Registrar's office is responsible for registration/enrollment. Most students are barely aware that the office exists and that's a good thing. If everything goes smoothly, they are able to register when they are assigned to and they never need us. A lot of what registrar's offices do have to with setting up the university calendars and registration system. We handle registrations for special groups and work with all the crazy/exception cases for things. Most graduation offices are also under the Registrar. One of my big responsibilities will be working in our system to set up a degree audit system for all of our graduate programs (70+) to make it easier at graduation and for the student along the way.

Yes, yes, that is what officially happens, but what REALLY happens??? LOL. Just kidding...what happens in the registrar's office, stays in the registrars office. ;-)
