Photo Redemption

Caroline had her school photos taken the last week in October and I was beginning to get annoyed they hadn't come home yet.  But today, I got home from work and after I finally had the chance to sit down and hug her, she perked up, ran to her backpack and pulled them out!  (She didn't even tell my MIL that she had them!)

I was thrilled!  They just totally capture her.  Not that last year's were bad, they just didn't capture her shiny personality and joy of life.  I absolutely adore these!!!  And she was very proud of them too.  She told me, "Mommy, I did my best smile I could do."  That she did!

She did mention that it looked a little funny the way her left eye isn't as wide open as her right eye to Jason but he quickly assured her that his eyes do that too.  (Heck, so do mine!)

I was just so happy that she was happy with them and to have such a beautiful photo of her to have in my family room and desk at work.  It's funny looking at last year's and seeing how much she has changed. It's really, truly amazing the difference a year has made for her.  Not a huge difference between pre-K and kindergarten, so this is a big changing year for Super C.  Of course, she still has all her baby teeth intact, so we're in for some changes in the years to come.

Bryce's photo day is on Monday and he's already talking trash about not wanting to get his photo taken.  I'm not bringing it up again in hopes that he'll forget and just go with the flow as he usually does at school.  He tends to be my most photogenic kid (not that the other 2 are schlubs!), but he is the one that is instant photo gold on so many occasions.

Yesterday I was reading the NYTimes and they had an article on School Photos and retouching. (then I went and saw your post on FB and this one now). i thought of you because i thought you had said something about caroline's teeth being loose... and some parents have a missing tooth digitally edited!!

i never thought SO much about the message that you send to your kid with the face/how you "receive" the school photo from school. We take a lot of pictures, so the school photo is just another one. and some ARE better than others, just like the other photos. (but it is great when the school photo reflects the personality of the kid you know!)

Yeah, I'm anti-retouching! Gotta capture what's really there, you know!? She is still so proud of that photo and I love how confident she is about it - that's what really makes my heart so full of joy.
