Napkin Rings

The kids and I made these napkin rings for my mom for Thanksgiving dinner.

I got the inspiration from Family Fun but kind of made it my own. Basically, I cut toilet paper/paper towel rolls into 1 1/2 inch pieces and then we wrapped strips of yellow and orange tissue paper around them. A few nights later, we coated them in good old Mod Podge and let them dry. I followed up with a second coat but I'm not sure if they really needed it.

Then I did my favorite part - Photoshop magic!  Seriously, it's my only hobby these days.  I found some pilgrim clip art and imposed the kids into them - I thought they were pretty funny myself.  After I printed them out, I used self laminating paper (thanks to my MIL for picking that up for me!) to cover them and then hot glued them to the rings.

I thought they were pretty cute but was not expecting how much my mom loved them.  I made 13 of them since that is how many will be at my mom's for dinner tomorrow.  I'd be willing to bet my grandmother won't leave on Thursday evening without taking one of each with her as a parting gift.  Seriously, having kids is the best - you can make the coolest gifts - just slap a picture of your kid on there and it's instantly cute!

(I'll be sure to post a photo of them with an actual napkin inside tomorrow.)
