Good Night, Vegetarian!

This photo is a little out of focus but it tells you a lot about Bryce. This was his expression upon seeing the turkey right after it came out of the oven.  (We also told him he was looking at the turkey's butt.)

I don't know what spurred it but earlier that day when we were having a light lunch, he says, "Yeah, I'm a vegetarian.  What's a vegetarian?"  We explained it to him and he said that sounded like him as he doesn't like meat at all.  Of course, then I reminded him that he likes chicken nuggets and hamburgers at fast food restaurants.  But I guess those don't count.   He is VERY picky about meats, but really, I shouldn't be surprised. I was the exact same way as a kid and haven't changed that much since then although I do eat skinless/boneless chicken, turkey, some fish and some ground beef.  Bryce won't touch any of it, so I don't force it.  I don't make him anything special and if he chooses not to eat, he deals with it.  (We always have non-meat sides and often have meatless dinners anyway, so he's hardly starving!)  Given my own meat issues, I understand the aversion so I'd never force someone to eat meat.

Anyway, for some reason on Thanksgiving he felt the need to declare that news to my family.  And then when he saw the turkey we all had a good laugh.

But later that night when I went in to tuck him in, he was laying there almost asleep and just waiting for my tuck-in before letting himself drift off.  I bent down, kissed him and he reached up, hugged me and said, "Good night, vegetarian."  I had to stifle a laugh.

The next day he had no recollection of saying it, but clearly it was on his mind.  My little vegetarian.
