What do you do.....

when your mother offers/wants to buy your eldest daughter a nice, new pair of tennis shoes for back to school and your daughter refuses to go to the store?

Her old shoes look TERRIBLE are probably getting too small and are starting to fall apart.  Plus, my mom has a coupon AND there is tax free shopping this week.  It is very nice of my mom to offer and I truly appreciate it  - so do we send her to school with disgusting shoes and wait until she complains and then end up having to buy her shoes without the discounts?  Or drag her to the store and spend a miserable amount of time with her where she doesn't like anything and the trip is futile. My mom is certainly not going to get them without her because of the sizing issue and Caroline's increasing pickiness when it comes to her clothing.   It's moments like these that make me understand why some species eat their young.

Okay, that last line literally made me laugh out loud. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

That is a conundrum... no advice... jsut waiting to see what others say as I can totally see myself in the same predicament at some point with Ben.

"It's moments like these that make me understand why some species eat their young"......Is that an option? I hadn't considered it, but now that you mention it.....

I would explain to her that she will need new shoes for school (gym). Tell her all of the other kids are probably going to be getting new shoes as well. Pick out her favorite outfit and let her base the colors in the tennis shoes off of that particular outfit or of course her favorite color. I always had my kids loving shoes so, we never really had any arguments. At least not the girls. Boys...that is a whole other ballgame.

I busted up at that last line!!!! Love it! Good luck with the shoes. I would vote for trying to get her to cooperate now but that is easier said then done, I know.
