My Sensitive Bryce

So after the day Bryce had on Saturday, it makes sense that he would rebound and completely redeem himself on Sunday.  The day started out going down the same difficult road and looked up slightly when I got them all 3 engaged in making a marshmallow cinnamon bun recipe that I used to make as a kid and could never make before because of Bryce's prior egg allergy.  Everyone was happier and then my mom called and asked if we would want to go and see a movie together since the day's weather was a bit questionable in terms of swimming.  Bryce and Caroline readily agreed and even Piper made it very clear that she wanted to go too!  So we got ourselves together, picked up my mom and headed to the cheap movies to see the 12:40 showing of Ramona and Beezus

The kids were so well behaved and chomped on popcorn and ate the sandwiches I brought.  Piper sat on my mom's lap most of the time but came down for some mommy time near the end.  At that point, Bryce saw his opening and went and filled Bertie's lap for a bit.  It was during this time that there was a sensitive spot in the movie where Ramona runs away and then is found by her family.  Well, I guess something about that moment struck a chord with Bryce because my mom said that he started quietly sobbing and pulled his baseball hat down over his face when he realized she looked at him.  She said he was actually shaking a little.  (It was a GREAT scene and quite emotional, so I understand it!) I wasn't aware of any of this at the time since he kept so quiet but had I seen it, I'm sure I would have started crying too because I almost did when she told me.  After the movie I asked him if there were any parts of the movie that made him sad and he completely denied it.  (Caroline was sad (surprise, surprise) when the cat died but didn't cry, I don't think.)  But even though he denied it, I wanted him to know it was okay that he cried and I told him the story about how when I was about his age I sobbed in the theater at the end of ET and my aunt and cousin laughed at me.  He seemed interested in that story and I told him that it's okay to cry in the movies - he seemed to like hearing that.  (I think Jason cried at a movie around his age too if my memory serves me correctly from a story my MIL has told me.)

My Bryce, a sensitive heart. I honestly think that is one of the reasons his fits/tantrums are so intense - he is just so passionate about everything in his life.  He loves us to pieces and we love him like that in return.

Oh and side note, if you have a chance to see this movie, definitely go.  I thought it was wonderful.  I loved the books as a kid and the movie was so funny and heartwarming.  Definitely one I will be buying to have in our DVD library.
