What to do for 10 years?

So our 10th anniversary is coming up on July 15 - so hard to believe it's been 10 years!  We're generally not big anniversary celebrators - we will usually go out for dinner to a really nice place and that's that.  We don't do gifts or even cards most years.  Since we don't get out often, when we do get to go out, we go 4 star.  We've been to Charleston once for our anniversary (the restaurant in Baltimore if you ask me) and a few of the other 4 star restaurants in the city as well.  I just keep trying to figure out if we'll just do the same this year for the "big 10" or something else.  Everyone always seems to suggest doing an overnight somewhere fairly local, but that isn't the least bit interesting to me.  Truly going away on a vacation is fine, but going somewhere for an overnight that isn't too far away just seems like a big waste of money - money I'd much rather spend on the house.  (I'm such a romantic, I know.)  Plus, a few weeks later we're going to the OBX with my family, so taking a mini-vacation before our family vacation just doesn't make any sense.

I guess much like other holidays such as New Year's and Valentine's Day I feel the societal pressure to do something special because "everyone" else does and it's a "big" anniversary.  We don't have the money for a big trip with just the 2 of us and to be honest, I have no interest in taking a long trip without my children at this point.  Someday, yes, but right now I'd rather save our money for family vacations.  Thankfully Jason isn't much of a romantic either so we are pretty much on the same page in that respect.  (I've even told him not to send me flowers - they are lovely but they die within days and then seem like a waste of money.)  Again, the romantic gene is just not a part of my DNA.  Although we wouldn't turn down a free trip for two to Aruba or the Virgin Islands if someone was offering.......

I would do something fun that you otherwise would never, ever do.... horseback riding, wine tasting at a local vineyard, cooking lesson, golf lesson. Maybe I've been watching too much of the Millionaire Matchmaker, but going out on a "date" and doing something to impress is very romantic.

As for restaurants, I am dying to try "Volt" in Frederick. If you watched Top Chef Vegas, it was Brian Voltaggio's restaurant. He made it to the final two. I think they even have a chef's table where you can sit in (or near) the kitchen and have a private meal.

Or, renew your vows?

I'm with you E, our 10 year is a month from today actually, and we aren't doing anything super special (like we did for our 5 year which was a 9 day cruise that I eneded up being 5 month pregnant during!) instead we are getting a new and much bigger deck with all the bells and whistles. Since we just bought the house last August, we too are "put it towards the house kinda people" and we need to get rid of the very old and very splintery deck ASAP! We'll do a dinner but I can't wait to spend time on my new deck!

And I feel the same way about flowers too :)
