This most recent cold snap has been reeking havoc on the skin in my house. I keep getting these nasty scaly patches all around my lips and I have dry patches on my fingers that just won't go away. Poor Caroline looks like she's been drinking way too much red fruit punch or maybe she just has a red mustache thanks to all the lip licking she's doing because of chapped lips. Bryce has dry little cheeks and Piper kind of does too.

I've resorted to using leftover lanolin from my breastfeeding days around my mouth and that's helped a good deal more than any old lip treatment you can buy at the store. (Yes, I've tried Burt's Bees and pretty much every other lip stuff at the store.) I put some lanolin on Caroline's mouth tonight too, of course that won't last long give how much licking she does. Bryce begrudgingly will let me put a little lotion on his cheeks sometimes, but not often.

There's definitely a correlation between the sub freezing temps and the dryness since none of this was that bad until it got really cold. I don't know how people who live further north handle it. Baltimore winters are bad enough and we're topping out at near freezing every day. Those poor souls up in Minnesota and Canada are topping out in the negative digits - eek! So obviously, it could be a lot worse.

I just want soft skin to come back without any effort. That's really not too much to ask, is it?

Hydrate on the inside...drink lots and lots and lots of water.
