Pitiful Piper

On Tuesday, Caroline, Bryce and I had haircuts after dinner so as we were getting our jackets on to leave, Piper noticed and clearly expected to be getting her jacket on too. Poor little girl started crying when I picked her up because she knew she wasn't going with us since she didn't have a jacket on. I was going to hand her to Jason but he had his hands full cleaning up dinner and told me just to put her down even though we knew she was going to cry. So I put her down and quickly exited trying not to prolong the scene. I also closed the laundry room door as I exited so she couldn't come through and get stuck between the laundry door and garage door. I could hear her crying as I got the big kids in the car.

When I got home, I asked Jason how long she cried. He said, "Oh man, that was quite a scene." He said she cried until he finally finished cleaning up, but it wasn't just crying, she put her arm up against the door horizontally and leaned her head up against it looking down and just stood there crying for me. He said it was absolutely pitiful.

She almost never gets upset when I leave her in the morning for work, so I'm not sure why when I leave any other time she just crumbles. It's like any other time I leave, she knows I'm not going to work - even on the weekends - and she cries like someone has broken her little heart. Thankfully she always bounces back and is as happy as a clam when I return.

Oh man, just reading about this breaks my heart.

I'm thinking probably because she knows you *have* to go to work. It's part of your routine. Any other time, she knows it's a different kind of outing, so she expects to go.

Oh, that is so sad. Poor Pipes.
