The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Oooooo, do you know what time it is????? Thanksgiving? Christmas? My birthday? Well, yeah, but that's not what I'm excited about. I'm excited about holiday card and calendar design time!!!! I've just started trolling the internet for a holiday card idea and I'm starting to get myself organized for my annual designing of the grandparent kid calendar. It's the one time of year that I am required to sit at the computer and play with Adobe Photoshop and tweek and poke endlessly. I love finding really cool ideas online and then just copying them (with some of my own edits) for my own personal use. My current excitement this year? I just read about it in Real Simple and had to check it out. I've got a few designs that I really like and can see making work for our family holiday greeting.

Of course, the thing that gets me with so many of these cute designs is that while the background and layout is important, it's the PHOTO that makes the difference. Having a better camera would definitely help, but the bigger problem is getting all 3 kids to cooperate. Last year I ended up resorting to doing 3 individual shots because I could not get anything usable. I'm hopeful this year, but not exceedingly so. It's so hard to get Piper in a happy and smiling mood at the same time as the other two - not to mention that she doesn't like to sit still and when you have a toddler that doesn't sit still and a camera that is NOT very good at capturing action, you've got a recipe for some unusable photos. So, we shall see....maybe I should start trying for some this weekend. Or not. I keep wondering if waiting until our Christmas Wonderland excursion is too late to wait. I'm such the antithesis of a procrastinator when it comes to things like this that waiting until 12/1 to order feels like I practically missed Christmas.

As for the nuts and bolts, for the printing of the calendars and the cards, I'll be using my standby of which has always done outstanding work and is one of the few places I have found to offer "blank" cards and calendars so I can upload my own designs and not be required to use one of their prefab backgrounds.

Ah yes, design time. I wonder if I'd enjoy it this much if it was my job? Probably not since I get to agonize over photos of my own kids and that's half the fun.
