Does She Get a Photo Do Over?

Well, the official kindergarten photo is in. Ms. R gave it to my MIL this morning when she dropped Caroline off and then Jason got to see it next when he got home. He called me at work and asked if I'd been able to see it online ahead of time and when I told him no, he started giggling. He said it looked kind of funny. I wasn't sure what to expect. Then I got home and saw it and felt kind of sad. It wasn't that great of a photo. I said something to my MIL about it and she said when Caroline saw it, she laughed too.

I shouldn't be that surprised it's not her best look. She's never been really at ease in front of a professional photographer. I think back to all the annual photos we did at Picture People and realize a lot of those smiles are forced. I remember going the last time for her 4 year old shots and she just looked so awkward as the photographer tried to pose her and make her smile.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I don't think I have a very pretty little girl, I just don't think her best self comes off in this photo. Her eyes aren't open all the way and that is not a real smile! I just feel really bummed about it because I wanted a really cute shot of her for here at home and for my desk at work. I don't even know if there will be any retakes at school. The information in the envelope doesn't specify that there actually will be one but says "if" there is one, here's what to do along with how you can return it completely for a refund. Sigh. I'm debating now waiting until after Christmas and taking her to JCPenney or something to get her annual photos taken.

So here it is, what do you think? (And you can be honest.....well, nicely honest.)

Her hair is cute and her shirt is classic! I say keep it, you know we all have those photos we look back on now and say oh no.... and her's really isn't that bad. You know it could be better but she's almost 6 and you know she's forcing it so what makes you so sure you'd do better at JCP? Just sayin' (this coming from a Mother who HAS to deal with the fact that her 2 year old WILL NOT sit and have her photo taken - will not even look at the camera! And her 4 year old is GREAT for pictures! But I can't let go of getting a sister shot this year so we're trying AGAIN on SUnday since the first sesson didn't turn out at all - so use my advise as you will. I get it's hard to settle when you know how cute and adorable they can be if the just did what they were supposed to do :) ) ~ Viv

Like I said, I think it captures the "kindergarten state of mind" !

I say keep it. I understand that it looks a little awkward but it isn't horrible. I also agree with Viv that you don't know that a picture from JcPenny would be any better. She is still adorable as always.

She looks like she just woke up. Don't feel bad though, Emily's preK photo is similar. I'm not going to order it, and I volunteered that day to try to get a good shot!!! Doh! I hate when the school photos don't turn out as good as you hoped. Don't they do another shot in the spring?

She is cute. Your stories about Caroline remind me about my daughter. She is also 5 yo, and just had her school photo taken. Pre-K pic didn't turn out very well, but I ordered them anyway.
Caroline looks like a smarty pants little lady, just like my daughter.
Keep the photo.

Awwww! I chuckled too :) She looks like she was in the middle of telling the photographer one of her really intricate stories. You must keep this for posterity. She'll get a kick out of it when she grows up!
