Criss Cross Applesauce

I think one of the things that I love most about Caroline is how much she loves to sing. I think one of the things that makes me the craziest when it comes to Caroline is that she sings ALL.THE.TIME. But honestly, I know that her singing is an indication of the fact that she's a content and loved child, so I'll take the annoyance and VERY loud singing over no singing any day.

Well, one of the funniest thing about Caroline's singing is that she rarely sings existing songs and prefers only to sing her self written compositions. Often, part of the song will sound a lot like a song you know, but I think that just serves as the "base" and the words are NEVER the same. Seriously, she's "written" probably about 20 songs in her 5 1/2 years and she still knows the chorus to all of them (as do we). The verses change all the time and she ad libs those, but the chorus is always the same. We've been treated to such gems as "C'mon Baby, Let's Get it Out Front", "I Wanna Be a Rock Star", and last night we got "Criss Cross Applesauce." The funny thing about Caroline's songs is that when she makes up the verses, she incorporates things from her day and life so you have to listen closely to know what she's singing about. The verses are kind of meandering (to say the least) and they seem like they will never end, but then she gets to the chorus and rocks out.

"Criss Cross Applesauce" seems to be inspired by her first few days of kindergarten. Apparently that is what they say in school when they sit down on the carpet together - you know how you cross you legs to sit down. She said they say some kind of little dity of "Criss cross applesauce, give yourself a hug." (Keep your hands to yourselves!!) She also added something about "Keep your lips closed so that others can learn." which I think is what they learned especially when they walk in the hallways to not disturb other classes.

Of course, I'm thrilled to hear all these little nuggets she's been learning and glad that she's sharing them with me. She also sang me a song that they sang in her first day of music class, of course I wasn't surprised she remembered all the words - that's just her thing!

Oh and my other favorite thing lately? Riding down the road in the van, listening to Radio Disney (of course) if a song comes on by one of her favorite female singers (Demi Lovato, Ashley Tisdale, Miley Cyrus), she starts doing the cutest little lip syncing you've EVER seen. She bops her head, makes diva faces, and totally makes herself a worthy candidate for some kind of performance someday. I have to be careful not to let her see me watching her in the rear view because then she'll get a little shy and stop. Seriously, I have to try and get a video of it next time Jason is driving. I love it so much, it almost brings me to tears. It's just hard to believe what a little performer I have. I love it!
