Big News

Well, the big news around these parts is that we have a solution to our kindergarten/daycare problem. A few weeks ago my mother-in-law, Sandy, floated the idea of leaving her current part-time job to take care of the kids while Jay and I worked. Honestly, we were caught off guard because while we love that our moms watch the kid/s one day a week, we never imagined either would be able to commit to an entire week. But we thought about it and talked to her more about it and it came to the conclusion that she really isn't happy at her job and she would really like to be able to spend more time with the kids and help us out. Plus, she's willing to do drop off/pickup with Caroline! Jason and I also decided that we'll be keeping Bryce at the daycare/preschool that he's in now for 3 days a week for 1/2 days to keep him in an schedule and classroom setting. And Miss Piper will just go along for the ride.

The only thing that's bittersweet about all this is that we'll be giving up the daycare provider that we've had for Piper this past year. Ms. Teresa is just wonderful and I was happy that Bryce would be joining Piper later this fall. Teresa is just amazing and Piper truly loves going there 3 days a week and I know Teresa will miss Piper too. So I let her know today that we're going to be transitioning to my MIL doing daycare for us and as expected, she totally understood. She's been doing daycare for so long, I knew she'd understand, plus we gave her plenty of notice. So while I'm very excited about how different things are going to be around our house, I'll be sad to lose Teresa even though I fully intend to stay in touch with her and keep her updated on the kids. I think after dealing with daycare for the past 5 1/2 years that it's very hard to "give up" a really great provider. Of all the DCP's we've had, Teresa is the best.

So we'll have to decide when we'll be making the official transition. Sometime in July, I think and we'll probably cut Caroline and Bryce back to partial days at daycare/preschool which they are already excited about.

I am so grateful to my IL's for their generosity with their time and interest in being such an important part of our lives. So my MIL will do 4 days a week while my mom will continue doing the 5th day. My kids are so lucky to have such loving and involved grandparents - Jay and I feel very fortunate as well. While we do the "hard stuff" when it comes to raising kids, we definitely couldn't do this without the amazing family we have. Just a little over a month ago I was feeling very down and upset about my working situation in terms of managing it with Caroline's school schedule, so now that things have changed so drastically and I feel like a huge weight has been lifted. Everything happens the way it's supposed to and I'm really looking forward to the next chapter.

That's awesome news! Sounds like a win, win, win for you & J, the kids, & Sandy too. And b/c your mom keeps them one day, they get to see BOTH grandmothers. How wonderful!
