My grandmother, Pearl Francis H., died this morning. My mom, her sister, and my grandmother's younger sister were with her. They found out on Thursday that she didn't even have pneumonia, but the fever continued and she just continued to get sicker. I'm sad that she's gone but relived this long fight is over. We'll be headed up to my mom's hometown later this week for the funeral. I think the last gift that a loved one gives us is the gift of togetherness after their passing. Knowing I'll be together with my extended family later this week is something I'm looking forward to in some odd way, even if it is for a somber occasion. I hope that we'll celebrate her life and remember the good times rather than dwelling on the sad ones.

And here's a photo I found on my cell phone that I believe was taken in the fall of 2007 when I took the kids with my mom to visit Nanny in the nursing home.

You and your family are in our thoughts. I hope that your family gathering this week is to celebrate life and all it can bring even in the time of sorrow.

I'm sorry E! I didn't know her name was Pearl! I love that name. And what a sweet photo. I'll say a prayer for your nanny, mom, & family. I know it has been a long struggle.

Sorry to hear of your grandma's passing. But hope you do have a good time remembering all she has done for everyone.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's never easy for those left behind to lose someone they love. But you're right, the parting gift they give is the gathering of family and the support and sharing with each other.
