Book Club Memories

Caroline brought home her first Scholastic Book Club book order form yesterday and I think I was more excited than she was. No, I don't think it, I KNOW I was more excited than she was. She had no clue. I got the biggest smile on my face when I pulled it out of her lunch bag and when I showed Jason, he did too.

I remembered how much I loved looking through them and picking something out. Not that I got something every time, but just remembering how much I loved books at that age. I also remember hearing stories about my father and his book orders during elementary school too and how he thought the book "Invincible Louisa" was called "Invisible Louisa" and he was very disappointed when he received the book. (At least that's how I remember the story and I think there was another one like it.)

The book club form even jogged Jason's memory enough to get him to remember something from his youth - a seeming rarity to me since I remember everything. When I told him I'd sit down with Caroline and order her a few books, he said, "Yeah, I remember being excited when the books were delivered and then on the rounds where I wasn't getting anything being kind of sad to see the other kids get something."

So clearly I wanted to make sure Caroline gets a book on her first go at it and I'm sure it will spark her for future forms. Although I will make sure to set a limit the next time. I ordered a $3 dinosaur book for Bryce and for $5 I got a set of two National Geographic books - one on sharks (for Bryce) and one on volcanoes (for Caroline). But when I asked Caroline to pick one book out just for herself, she picked a hardcover book that was $16. But, it's a really cute book and she already has another Ann Estelle book, so I figured for her first order, I'll get her that one.

I can't wait for delivery day!

Oh I LOVE Scholastic Forms!!! Ben gets them at preschool too, but I have yet to order him anything... I was kind of holding out for when he's in grade school. But now you've inspired me. ;)

Meant to tell you, I just started reading Ben the Beverly Clearly Ramona series and he LOVES them. I'll Caroline would like them too. We started with the ones where Ramona is four and five and seriously, he can't get enough. I'm realizing as I'm reading that Ben and Ramona have a lot in common. ;)

You sound just like me!! I absolutely LOVE the scholastic forms, and I'm kind of embarassed to say that the preschool teacher told me last year that we were, um, the biggest supporters - LOL! My kids just go through so many books, and they really are the most reasonable prices around! Maddie's teacher posted the new order form online last week and I immediately responded with "YAY! We have missed the book order forms SO much this summer!" She probably thinks I'm a total dork.
