Bryceless

Well, tonight it's just the 3 of us, or maybe the 3.66 of us since Bryce decided he wanted to stay at my parents' house for the night. We were invited over for dinner and before we left, my mom called and invited the kids to spend the night. Immeadiately, Caroline balked and said she would miss me a lot and didn't want to go. I asked her what was the difference between going to Bertie's and Nana's and basically she said that Nana had better toys and they watch the Goodnight Show when they go there. (And she told my mom this when she asked her too....) And I should add that the toys she's referring to were just taken out a few weeks ago (toys belonging to Jason and his siblings as kids) so it's not like Nana has always had something more interesting than Bertie. Precious, isn't she? Although I do think a lot of it has to do with missing us and the fact that we were at my parents' house instead of my parents coming to get them.

However, the entire time we were there, Bryce insisted he did want to stay while Caroline wavered back and forth. It was pretty cute when we were getting ready to go and he kind of threw a fit because he thought he had to go with us and he wanted to go up and get a bath with Bertie. And so, with one child in tow (one in utero), we headed home and I'd be lying to say it didn't make me sad. This was Bryce's first solo overnight and still being my baby, it was hard. Caroline's had a few solo overnights before with either set of grandparents, but never Bryce. Since he was born, we either had both of them together (most nights, obviously), just Bryce, or neither. So this is weird. Jason is upstairs now reading to Caroline and it was a much quieter bedtime than usual, but I miss my little cuddly boy. But I'm sure he's snuggling in with Bertie and Pop Pop and enjoying getting ALL the attention and not having anyone argue with him or taunt him. He eats up attention, so I bet he'll enjoy this. But we miss him.

In other news, this morning Katie and her sweet girls, Emily and Lucy, came up for a much needed visit. It was really nice because Katie and I haven't really had a chance to catch up in ages and our older girls played SO well together. In fact, they mostly played without a peep except to ask us for things. Bryce wasn't quite as enthralled with their choice of playing princesses or ponies, so he kind of did his own thing. Lucy chilled out with her mommy and let us chat a good bit. We both commented on how nicely the girls played and how pleasant it was to not have to worry about them. I think it was really the first time that they've done that together and I'm sure it has a lot to do with them both getting older and being able to really converse with one another. I hope they'll continue as they get older! It's so nice to have some adult conversation with another parent of young children!

Oh and my kids were just over the moon about Lucy. They kept wanting to play peekaboo with her and would chase after her as she scooted around the room and would give her toys to play with. Caroline even got to hold her for a second but most 10 month old babies don't want to be held by 4 year olds, so that quickly ended. Katie commented how great they'll be with their baby sister and I thought that they might be a little unhappy to find out that she won't be born as lively and interactive as Lucy is right now and they will probably be disappointed she'll just lay there for a while.

So quite a full day and I'm a bit tired, so time to chill out with Jay. Thanks again for coming up K! (Can't wait to see the pics of the promenade!)
