How to break in new shoes....

This morning, I ran a bunch of errands with the kids including a haircut for Bryce, a pharmacy run, and getting Bryce new sneakers since the ones he has were kind of defective from the start and my attempts to fix them are constantly thwarted by his little fingers. So, he picked out a Lightning McQueen pair and decided to wear them later to my mom and dad's for dinner.

After dinner, the kids were running around as we were finishing up dinner on the top deck and they decided to go down on the lower deck even though we asked them not to because the lower deck, while large, surrounds the still covered pool. We both had visions of one of the kids (um, Bryce?) falling in. Well, they weren't down there 5 minutes when I looked up and saw Bryce falling in. Now the cover is on really well so he didn't sink that fast, but I got my pregnant self down those steps faster than I realized I could and fished him out before his shirt managed to get wet although I can't say the same about his bottom half. That look of terror on his face and his calls for mommy were my only focus as I raced down the steps. My sister was close behind telling me to not try and reach and get him out myself but I wasn't exactly thinking - I was just doing. And I got him out without any problems. He really wasn't in any true danger since he was on top of the cover, which is kind of mesh, but it's not somewhere you want to hang around either.

Suffice it to say, Bryce's new shoes have now been broken in. And thankfully I always carry a spare set of clothes for both kids no matter where we go for reasons JUST like this. Bryce refused to go down on that lower deck the rest of the evening, so I guess he learned his lesson. Jason said that as we were warning them about being careful down on the deck he had a clear vision of Mr. Clumsy falling right in. Too bad kids don't learn from a parent's intuition. At least his McQueen shoes still light up when you walk.

OMG! I remember your scare with Caroline jumping in last summer....I must admit, the thought of the pregnant you running as fast as you can down those steps does make me chuckle! I couldn't run so well last April myself!
