You Talked Me Into It

Well, I'm gonna get 'em! (The Mary Jane Beach Trekkers) But the problem now is that I can't decide what color. Blue is probably the most versatle, but oh the pink. And then there's the mint. And the thing about the mint is, I have a soft spot in my heart for a pair of mint shoes. (Remember, mom?)

See, when I was going into the 6th grade, I suddenly became aware of having some kind of respectable brand name of athletic shoes. I'd always been fine with whatever my mom found for us before, but going into middle school made me want something more "in." So we started looking late that summer of 1987 and I saw the most beautiful, leather, mint green Reebok high tops, I'd ever seen. (They were beautiful to me then but now I shudder to think about them.)

Here's an example of the style, but they were a very nice shade of MINT:

Well, turns out they were $50 and my mom just couldn't see spending $50 on a pair of shoes, especially MINT GREEN ones that weren't going to go with much. (Not that I cared.) So I ended up with a pair of regular white leather Reeboks with turquoise accents. I was a little sad about it, but still happy with what I ended up with. At least they were Reeboks, right? And the next year, I got a pair of Tretorns (rememeber those) and as a homage to my obsession the year before, they had a mint green "swoosh" thing on them. I should probably take a moment to thank my mom for her better judgement and not letting me get those shoes. All the pictures they would have been in, thank you too. Good heavens.

So maybe the mint? They're not too minty but I always have loved PINK. Decisions, decisions..

I had a pair of Tretorns with a green "swoosh" too! Think it was mint but maybe just a light green. Same year too! Funny since I went to a private school then and didn't see you guys much :(

i would go with the pink! I HEART pink! But I love blue too, and it would go with more things.

And for the record I don't get a Land's End catalog but I have heard of it.....

Erin: Lots of sizes are on back order through next week, some till 4/21. I got mine (MINT!) and they are on back order till 3/17 so no big deal. They must be HOT this year! (We're so fashionable, huh?)

Went w/ the mint for nostalgia - what can I say, I convinced myself. But I'm a pink girl too. It's hard to turn down pink!

I want the purple ones for Makenzie! Too bad her birthday is in October, I have no big gift-giving reason to get them for her :( Well see...........

You LUCKY girl!! I would have died for a pair of tretorns!!!! OH my gosh they were so "IN" back in middle school. I had totally forgotten about those reeboks too. The laces AND the velcro were so cool.

I actually can't remember if I had a pair of reeboks or not. I think I did, but I'm not sure. That stuff was SO important to me in those middle school years. I will try to remember that when Emily & Lucy are that age.

My mom kind of "got it" too but she never let us go crazy when all the girls at school insisted on labels. (Benetton or The Limited) We had a few pieces and that was it. And she bought us one "cool" pair of tennis shoes a year that were expected to last the whole year. By high school though, we were kind of over it. I know I'll remember those days very well when my kids get there!

Oh it was soooo much worse at private school (6th & 7th grade) with the labels - if it wasn't Benetton or OutBackRed or Guess or then FORGET IT! I hated private school - I was so very happy when I got to go back to public school in 8th grade! Not that labels wasn't important but at least I was a little more managable (most of the kids I went to private school with were rich and I was not so!)

Still trying to figure out how I can "Get" these shoes for the summer. I'm asking for Crocs too, so I may have to pick 1. Decision, decisions..............
