I didn't even wear green...

I just don't get into St. Patrick's Day. I don't have any Irish heritage and I don't want to pretend to be Irish so I can have an excuse to get totally wasted. (Well, clearly not this year, but you know...) While I think it's a cool holiday for the people that have Irish heritage, I guess I don't understand why it's been turned into a drinking holiday when that's not what it is in Ireland. Like the citizens of the US need an excuse to get drunk..... Yes, I like a little drinky drinky sometimes but I don't go looking for a "fake" reason to celebrate. I guess in a way too, it equates being Irish with being drunk. Isn't that negative stereotyping?

I think it can be a fun little holiday for kids in that you can dye a lot of things green for them to be festive and such, but I guess since I turned 12, it has ceased to be much fun for me. Not that I feel like I'm missing out. I guess I kind of lump St. Patty's Day in with Valentine's Day as holidays people made up to make everyone else feel like they aren't doing something that's fun/good enough. Oh yeah, New Year's is like that too.

Man, I really am a humbug. Maybe I should go dye this glass of water green.
