All Night Long

Well....he did it!!! Bryce spent the entire night in his big boy bed and room!!! It's hard to beleive a week ago he was still so scared to do it. On Friday night, I decided to give it another try and he was still talking a bit about monsters and such, so I laid down in his bed with him until he went to sleep. This is not something Jason and I want to ever get in the habit of with our kids but I figured if he saw that he could do it, that maybe it would help. At 5am though, he woke up crying like he was scared to death. Jason went in and took him back to his crib upon his request. We didn't try on Saturday night because we were so tired but yesterday, at nap time, we decided to try again. It took about an hour before I finally got him to stay in bed because he thought it was hilarious to open and slam doors but he finally managed to lay still and then he went to sleep. I was so proud of him for that and hoped it was a sign of things to come. So last night, Jason got him all set up for a night in his big boy room and he seemed okay. Of course, downstairs we heard a door close, a devilish laugh and then Caroline yelling that Bryce was out of bed. His trick was to get up and close HER door and then high tail it back to his bed as fast as possible - hence the devilish laugh!

And then once he figured out he needed to stay in his bed, he didn't like it and proceeded to thump the wall with his feet. We figured that since he wasn't wearing shoes (obviously!) he wasn't going to do that much damage and hearing those thumps meant he was actually in bed. And after a while, they died down and there we had a precious sleeping little boy in his bed. I actually had to wake him up at almost 7am this morning and there I found him, upside down in his bed - with no covers. But he rarely slept all night with covers in his crib either, so I'm not surprised.

He seemed quite pleased with himself once he figured out what he had done and I hope that it continues from here on out. I know that we're destined for nights in the future where the two of them will be up to no good - heck, I remember nights like that as a kid with my siblings, but the fact that he doesn't seem scared of his room anymore is a big deal.

Of course, moving my baby out of the nursery is bittersweet for me. He still feels like such a baby to me and moving him into his new room makes me sad and lament for his baby days. It makes me glad I've got a spare on the way....

Yea B! I hope he contuines to do this! So you keep your bedroom doors open at night? We close ours and I wondering if I'm doing something wrong.

I'd like to have the doors closed but there are two impediments to that.

1. The kids don't like it and it's a big issue - they get scared.

2. Their rooms get FREEZING in the winter and HOT in the summer b/c the air isn't circulating.

So open doors it is.... :(

Oh that sucks! So far Kenzie is cool with the door closed and the air is good in there so I guess I'm lucky (well so far)........

Way to go Bryce! He is moving up in the world:>:> Up until our current move we have been able to keep Sydney's door closed without a problem so we will see if we can reinstate that once in the new house.
