I feel like Dwight Schrute!

Those of you who are fans of NBC's The Office, will understand why I'm feeling like Dwight these days....

A few months back - August, I think - I found out that I was going to be getting a raise and title change here at work. I was very happy given that I like my job and office and being recognized like this really shows the appreciation the department has for my work. Plus, extra money always helps....

So it was sent onto HR for many moons to be processed. I had no hope of it happening very quickly since other people I work with had attested to their similar job changes taking 3-4 months to happen. But finally, on Monday my supervisor came into tell me that he had some good news and some not so good news.

The good news (and really the best news) is that the salary increase was approved! And b/c the paperwork was signed in mid-August, I'll be getting a nice paycheck in a few weeks because the change is retroactive to then. Wahoo!

However, the not so good news is that my title change was not approved because according to HR and the state, our office is not big enough to have an assistant director. So while my title changes a little bit from what it was, it's still not entirely indicative of my responsibilities and the work I do from day to day. So hence, I feel like Dwight Schrute - Assistant to the Regional Manager....

Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather it be this way than reversed (getting the title change instead of the money) but it just kind of stings. However, my supervisor is pretty frustrated with the system too and intends to continue asking for it since he's allowed to.

At least I have my own office, poor Dwight never had his own office.
