Yes Dad, I Played the Christmas Music Already

My dad had a pretty hard and strict rule at our house growing up that we were not to play Christmas music until AFTER Thanksgiving. Of course, that was back in the day when the Christmas season didn't start until then either. Santa didn't arrive at the mall, Christmas commercials, and holiday shopping all waited until after everyone had had their turkey. I remember my freshman year of college playing Christmas music in early November and feeling like a rebel. However, as I've gotten older, I have realized that waiting until after T-day is a good idea so that you don't get sick of the same 15 songs that you hear over and over....

But now that I have kids, I understand the excitement again and this evening instead of going up for baths at the regularly scheduled time, I ran downstairs and found my box of Christmas CDs knowing that the kids would be inclined to dance. And dance they did! There must be something instinctively jolly about Christmas music that gets little kids dancing. I remember doing it as a child and as soon as I put it on this evening, the dancing began. And the best part was watching them dance around the coffee table. Why? Well, because I have very fond memories of listening to my grandfather or uncle play Christmas tunes on the organ at my grandmother's and marching/dancing around her coffee tables to the music with my cousins. I guess it's just a normal kid thing to do.

And with that, I will leave you with this little video. It seems Bryce is quite taken with my classic John Denver and the Muppets - A Christmas Together CD. He especially liked the part with Miss Piggy as you'll see here.

So yes, Dad, I did play my Christmas music a little early (but not ridiculously early) but I'd guess that you probably are enjoying seeing your grandchildren enjoy it, so maybe you'll forgive me for this.

I think everyone can use a little excitement for the holidays. Even playing a few songs here and there. On the way home from work the other day I heard a Christmas Carol on the radio and at first I turned it right away. But then I went back to it and it did lift my spirits!
PS - I need a copy of that John Denver/Muppets Christmas :)

Oh, they are so cute - and you know that mine have already started in on the dancing to Christmas tunes too, so you are NOT alone! LOL. It's fun to see them get in the spirit!

I love how Bryce trys to copy Beaker! And Caroline just dancing around! Way too cute!

And I usually listen to XM radio in the car but I just flipped it over to 101.9 for their Christmas music - I love holiday music!

P.S. I love that the Halloween June pumpkin is still by the fireplace while the kids listen to Christmas music!
