The Old Deck

On Saturday evening, we had dinner at my parents' house after Jason and I returned from a whirlwind trip to Toys R Us in which we got 95% of the kids' toy shopping completed. We had just gone into the family room/sunroom to relax and listen to some Christmas music when Jason told Caroline that the sunroom is sitting on what used to be part of my mom and dad's deck before they renovated. So he said, "We're sitting on their old deck."

At this point, my dad came into the room and Caroline said, "Hey Pop Pop, we're on your old deck!"

My dad did an immediate double take and I guess the look of surprise/shock on his face caused Jason to explain what she'd said and then my dad admitted that he thought Caroline had just called him an "old d*ck!"

Now this is funny anyway, but if you know my dad, this is even funnier. We have always joked around about him being the "old guy" or and "old fart" so I'm sure hearing his sweet granddaughter call him an old d*ck was a bit more than he expected. Of course now I have this sudden urge to just start calling him Dick. But that's just the ornery side of me.......

Also amusing is the fact that your dad put on Christmas music! (re: the post just before this one) ;)

Yeah, we've determined he's gotten softer with age - grandparenting will do that to you. Kind of like you can't believe your grandparents were never mean to your parents....
