Scared of the Dark

For the past few weeks, Bryce has had trouble when we put him in bed. As soon as we'd put him down and leave, he'd start crying, yelling, and calling for one of us. "Rock Daddy, ROCK!" or "I NEED MOMMY!"

We figured it was just a stage he was going through and we were hoping it would end.....soon.

Then tonight I had "mommy, duh!" moment. For the past few weeks, I've noticed that if a room is dark, Bryce won't go in. He'll say, "Mommy, light off. Turn light on, Mommy!" He's done it a few times in the mornings and then this evening, he wouldn't come into the playroom that was just slightly dark to retreive a soccer ball.

And then it hit me, DUH! Bryce has developed a fear of the dark - which is totally normal at 2 years old. Here I was thinking that he was too young for that or that he just didn't understand.

So we decided to let him have his "friend" back. (We took them away a few weeks ago when we realized that they were hindering sleep for Caroline.) Jay sat it on his dresser and when he closed the door and left the room, he didn't whimper once.

Poor kid, he was scared and just couldn't verbalize it. My little boy - he's growing up.

How on EARTH is Bryce old enough to be afraid of the dark???? I can't believe how fast he's growing up!
