On Sunday afternoon, I took the kids to my parent's church for a Halloween party. It was a bit crowded and chaotic (they had a great turn out), but the kids told me later that they had fun, so that is all that matters.

Anyway, right when we got there, I took the kids inside we were in a hallway by ourselves and who comes walking down the hall? Elmo and Pooh! (or at least reasonable facsimiles of Elmo and Pooh) Bryce took one look at them and got the biggest grin on his face. I could tell he was star struck. "MELMO!" he cried! Elmo came closer to give him a hug, but Bryce kind of backed away to tell Elmo that while he was very happy to see him, he did NOT want Elmo to touch him.

So then I herded both kids into the fellowship hall and it was a bit crazy - so we sat in some empty chairs to wait for my parents to arrive. Well, at that point, all Bryce cared about was Elmo. He sat there and watched Elmo walk around the crowded room and kept calling "HI MELMO!" He'd wave and blow kisses too.

Later on, my dad took him over to see Elmo close up again and Bryce was just beside himself that he was in the actual presence of greatness - or so he thought. You couldn't get the smile off his face.

Then, during the "trunk or treat" (trick or treating from car to car) later on, Bryce finally was brave enough to give Elmo a hug and he was quite proud of himself doing so. But there was just something so sweet and cute about Bryce constantly trying to get Elmo's attention by calling for him in his sweet little voice, waving, and blowing kisses. Unfortunately, I didn't get any pictures, but I think my dad got some and a movie of the hug. Who ever would have thought that kids would be so enthralled with a big, furry monster named Elmo?
