My Well Accessorized......Son

I guess when you have an older sibling, you often emulate things that they do. The line "monkey see, monkey do" is heard frequently around our house in response to Bryce copying something that Caroline is doing. Whether it's her dancing, the toy she's playing with, wanting to draw, or just the way she's horsing around - Bryce is often looking to his sister for direction. Yes, he does a lot of things on his own too and is often much more content to play on his own than Caroline ever was.

But this morning proved that a little boy having an older sister can be funny. Both kids were standing there brushing their teeth and Bryce reached into the drawer that has all of Caroline's hair accessories (that she rarely wears). He pulled out a little hair clip and wanted it in. However, a hair clip requires just that - HAIR. So I attempted to put it in and it fell right out. He kind of fussed so I pulled out a barrette and that seemed to stay in. And he was happy. So there went my little 2 year old boy to daycare with a light blue barrette on the top of his head. (At least it was blue and on TOP of his head rather than on the side, right?)

Obviously I know, it's not a big deal and I find it comical more than anything. He's also insisted on wearing (clear) lip gloss some mornings too when Caroline does but he probably likes that more because it's flavored.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised since my brother who grew up with two older sisters played My Little Ponies, Strawberry Shortcake and sometimes Barbie with us. He even had a blue and a green pony and a boy Strawberry Shortcake (Huckleberry Pie). But I think that growing up with two older sisters helped make my brother into a really nice guy who treats women with a lot of respect and sensitivity and that is what I hope growing up with an older sister will do for Bryce.

I love out you "out" Kevin for playing with girl toys, but at least you follow it up with a very loving comment about his respect for women! :)

A picture wasn't happening yesterday, unfortunately. I'll be sure to get one the next time he decides he needs a little extra something to jazz up his outfit.
