Is this in my future?

I'm starting to think that we may have one of these in our future. Bryce is starting to show signs of attempting to get out of his crib and I don't think he's anywhere near ready for a big boy bed.

He hasn't completely managed it yet, but he can get one leg up to start throwing it over the crib when he wants out and I know it's just a matter of time. Some kids are just climbers and Bryce definitely is - he climbs on chairs, tables, and just about anything else.

And even if his crib was one of those convertible kinds that converted into a toddler bed, I would be thinking seriously about it. Caroline went into her big girl bed at 25 months, but at 22 months, I can tell that this isn't something that Bryce would be ready for. I know my kids and this is not something he'd handle very well - not to mention how hard it would be for mom and dad.

So while I'm not rushing out to buy one just yet (um, yeah, at around $70 they are a little pricey), it's something I'm thinking about. It would keep him in the safety of crib and extend his use of it. It looks a little "cagey" to me, but then, aren't all cribs basically just a baby cage?

If it were me, I'd skip the netting and move him to a toddler bed. Those nets are just too expensive.Bryce would probably bust through that thing or be unhappy sitting under it.
He's almost 2, not to small for a toddler bed-- although you & J would probably want to hold off as long as possible.

My only problem w/ a toddler bed is it's another thing we'd have to buy. Obviously we'd use the same mattress, but I'd rather just buy a bed for him.

I just know in a toddler bed, he would NOT stay in it. He still throws tantrums at night quite often when we put him in. He gets into stuff really badly too. He's just a big mischief maker that I'm not prepared for.....

Erika- I'm sorry, but I'm so glad Bryce came before Baz- I can learn form all your experience-LOL!!! Wish I had some advice....maybe a twin mattress on the floor while the crib is still there to see what happens? I assume you're worried about him tearing the room apart, though, so maybe check out ebay for the netting?

We did start Caroline off on a mattress on the floor.

We did have the mattress on the floor in her room, but at the time, she wasn't sleeping in it. Her first night in the bed was 12/31/05 and we had just put the bed on the frame in preparation for it.

Screw a piece of plywood over the top of the crib every night. Cheap and effective.
