Again with the band-aids

As I'm sure a few of my readers know, there was the saga of Duckie about a month ago in which Caroline mourned the loss/passing of a band-aid in the pool during her swimming lessons. Well, tonight's drama brought that memory back.......and then some.

Caroline had a bright yellow band-aid on her bee sting courtesy of Nurse Bertie. After her bath, I asked the VERY tired Caroline if she wanted mommy to put some medicine on it. (I was just going to dot it with some fresh calamine lotion to keep the itch down.) She said yes and even told me she wanted a Diego band-aid. No sweat, this will be fine. She was excited that I had the same pink medicine that Bertie had. But then the reality hit for her - that meant taking off her yellow band-aid. (This one had a little more resemblence to the name "Duckie," but I digress....)

Tantrum begins. Now I know that Caroline did not nap yesterday and had two VERY busy days. She went to bed around 9pm at Bertie's last night and was up at 6am this morning (on her own accord). She did not nap today and with the added excitement of a picnic with Bertie and Boomer throwing up and scaring her, you can imagine how tired and worn out she was at 7:30. The band-aid was just the icing on the cake.

She cried and she screamed that, yes, she did want the medicine, but did NOT want the band-aid taken off. Now how in the world do you do that? I told her if I peeled it off gently, that it would still stick and I could put the medicine on. NOPE! I even got it half off while restraining her legs and that made her CRAZY. So I stuck it back on and laid her in bed thrashing about.

At this point, Jason came in from putting Bryce to bed and because of Daddy-Magic, he somehow talked her into the very thing I was trying to tell her. And with a little Mommy-Magic, I peeled the band-aid half off, dotted on the calamine, blew on it to dry it and put the yellow band-aid back on. All the while, she's laying there next to daddy smiling. (WTH?) He told her that because it wouldn't be as sticky, she needed another band-aid on top of it to keep it on. She sweetly requested a Diego band-aid and laid there quietly after hugs and kisses all around. I think she passed out about 5 minute later. Ahhhhhhhhhhh..........

I'm impressed that you were able to get the band-aid off at all! A sleep-deprived (or just plain overtired) 3 year old is a tough negotiator. I wonder if/when it gets better....

It is truly amazing to see what things/issues kids become so attached to. I am impressed you got it done:> Kudos to mom and dad!
