The State of Things

Well Bryce continues to be resistant to nursing, but he did nurse w/o problems last night in the middle of the night again and then with some cajoling again this morning. But he was very resistant before bedtime last night. We'll see...

Also, I think I'm starting to get the plague. I've had a tickle in my throat all day, but I've been doing the Zicam and hoping to avoid the worst of it. Fingers crossed..

And last but not least, here's an interesting PRO-Breastfeeding article I just read.....

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/13/health/13brea.html?ex=1150344000&en=2d8cdc2ace79a5a1&ei=5087%0A

Doesn't leave a lot of room for anything else. While I like the fact that it is so pro-BFing, it doesn't really allow for anyone who is physically unable to nurse their baby (b/c of supply, etc). Instead, it seems to make anyone who tries to breastfeed and can't feel VERY guilty. And lastly, if the health experts seem so overwhelmingly supportive of having moms BF for at least 6 months, then why don't they work on lobbying to get maternity leave changed so that BFing full time would be much easier. I would imagine that there are a lot of women who don't BF b/c they have to go back to work full time at 6 weeks. 6 weeks is barely enough time for BFing to get established and then you have to rush back to work and pump all the time. Ridiculous.

So the AAP need to put their money where their mouth is and work to support BFing moms better if they really want more people to do it!
