A Game Called Collusion

So I'm thinking that Caroline and Bryce have nightly meetings to figure out how to keep mommy and daddy from getting a good night sleep. Like for example, this weekend, they both decided to wake up just before 6am on both days. Mind you, Caroline went to bed at her normal (or later) bedtime both nights and almost NEVER wakes up by herself on weekdays before 7am. Then last night, Bryce slept through the night (as he's doing more frequently) but Caroline was up 3 times. She hardly is ever up at night and I have no idea why she was up b/c when she wakes up in the night, she won't talk except to yell "MOMMY!" The 3rd time she woke up, she came into our room and in my exhaustion I pulled her into bed with me and as I dozed off and on, she laid there and rubbed my arm or patted Jason's back. Finally after about 30 minutes of that, she was back in her bed.

Needless to say, she did NOT want to get up this morning. But I made the morning managable by a new technique I picked up from the SuperNanny. Last night using Microsoft Publisher, I made up a "morning checklist" for Caroline with pictures of her doing the things on her "list." We talked about it last night and I showed her how she'll get a star in the box when she does each item. I've put the checklist in a protective plactic sleeve and hung it on her door. I can take the stars off at night after she goes to bed in preparation for the morning. I might make her a night checklist too since bedtime can be tough sometimes. They always say kids do better when they know what to expect and I think this has a lot of potential. This morning she liked seeing the pictures of herself doing those things (waking up, potty, brushing teeth, getting dressed) and then helped to do them. Eventually it will be nice when she can totally dress herself.
